Free Pre-Thanksgiving Feast for the Guests/Homeless in the Community
Unhoused residents are the most vulnerable members of our community. The impact on our community can be measured in a variety of ways including the number of crimes committed against those who are homeless. Our goals for the 2022 Pre-Thanksgiving Dinner will be to help meet the community’s basic needs by showing support and providing free meals and other resources to those in attendance.
This event will serve as an open forum or safe space for victims or others affected by gun violence to obtain resources and support to help them be safe in our community.
All are Welcome November 19, 2022

Objectives
- Build trust and create relationships with at-risk individuals in the community.
- Listen actively to the concerns and needs of the community.
- Provide the community with the means to reach out to take advantage of the many resources available through the H.O.P.E. Foundation and the foundation’s various partners.
- Cultivate a community of safety and comfort within our targeted audience.
- This event is open to all members of the community; however, we want to address those who are unhoused; sleeping on the streets of Norfolk, those who may not be able to cook, and those who remain alone or isolated from family and friends.
All Support is Appriciated
The theme of the event will be “There is H.O.P.E. (Homeless is a situation. It is NOT who you are!)”
Guests and their families will be invited to participate in a day of learning that will kick off with a keynote speaker on the topic of where individuals will learn practical strategies for navigating conflict. All attendees will be treated to a free hot Meal during the event. In partnership with volunteers and other community organizations we will assess the needs of our guests and personalize their support to ensure their immediate needs for safety are met. Our safety services include placing a family in temporary housing to remove them from immediate danger. In addition, we offer assistance with state issued identification, social security card, linkage city services, voter registration, and the restoration of civil rights.
