We want to ensure we can continue providing services in a safe manner throughout these difficult times. Please review this page for important information.
The Coronavirus Pandemic (COVID-19) has had a negative effect on the community we server. The health and wellbeing of the homeless population is, and continues to be, our top priority However, uncertainty continues to be at the forefront as we forge ahead in preparation of readying the only summer shelter, H.O.P.E. Meals on Wheels in Hampton Roads area for a May 3, 2022 Kickoff. We are closely monitoring COVID-19 and have implemented the following procedures and preventive measures to minimize risk to our homeless population, the volunteers, and the community.
COVID-19 is continually evolving and we do not yet understand the underlying impact it will have on human life. as such, we have incorporated a few non-traditional modifications. First, we are foregoing overnight lodging for the homeless population and will instead provide hand-delivered home cooked dinners, clean clothes, personal hygiene and a survivor bag consisting of a mask, gloves, hand sanitizers, and a non-perishable food bag.
This service is provided every Sunday, Wednesday & Friday from 5:30 pm – 7:30pm in Norfolk, VA; to include hotels and motels where guest are living.
The execution of the aforementioned plan would be as follows:
Note: We will also have words of encouragement and a field minister on staff to offer guests hope and prayers. As the situation evolves, we will always be in compliance with guidance from local authorities regarding any additional courses of action that need to be implemented
Many of you have asked what you can do to facilitate the opening of the H.O.P.E. Summer Shelter (HOPE on Wheels) on May 3, 2022. As you are aware, the ability to provide much needed services to our “guest” is dependent on the support each of you so willingly give. We could not continue to be a blessing, while carrying out God’s mission, if it were not for your contributions; albeit time, donations or both. As we move forward in our fourth year of operations and under less than ideal conditions, I have created four distinct groups where you and/or your organization might best contribute. Pease contact respective Team Leaders with your desires.
Team One: Team Leader: Kassandra Ballord – kassandra@hopefdn.org
Sponsors and/or Volunteers, who are interested in donating food to cook, assist in food preparation and package up to go meals for the guests.
Team Two: Team Leader: Janet Repass – janet@hopefdn.org
Sponsors and/or Volunteers who would like to contribute nonperishable items to pack in bags; items such as: Tuna Fish, Sardines, Vienna Sausage, Crackers, Applesauce, Pudding, and Personal Hygiene items (See guest essential listing) etc…
Team Three: Team Leader: Marquita Goodhope – marquita@hopefdn.org
Sponsors and/or Volunteers who would like to be a part of the clothing ministry would assist in handing out clothing items to the guests.
From the bottom of my heart, I thank each of you for everything you do. Without your generous donations and time, the shelter would not be able to help those who need it the most. I have been blessed, and I want to be a blessing to others; that is something I believe we can all do TOGETHER.
Your Faithful Servant,
Regina Darden
